GENNADIUS LIBRARY POLICY FOR BOOK ACQUISITIONS
The Gennadius Library is a leading research center for the history, language, literature, and art of Greece and the Greek world from the end of antiquity to modern times.
Since its foundation in 1926, the Library has collected books based on the interests of Johannes Gennadius, i.e. early editions of the Greek classics, books about geography and travel, the Greek War of Independence, the Kingdom of Greece, and the Eastern Question, as well as Greek language, religion, the history of the Orthodox Church, ethnography etc. [More information on the original collection and rare books can be found here]
The acquisition policy for non-rare, research books actively acquired by the Library is presented here according to the headings of the Library of Congress. Materials are selected by the Librarian of the Gennadius Library. A list of relevant electronic resources can be found here. Rare books are acquired when funds permit.

Donation Policy
The Gennadius Library welcomes gifts of books, which are in accordance with the Gennadius Library Acquisitions Policy. Gifts are accepted with the understanding that the Library will make all decisions regarding their retention, location, cataloging, or any other consideration relating to their use. A letter from the Library will be sent to acknowledge all gifts. Gifts may be added to the collection, donated to another library, or sold so that the proceeds benefit the Gennadius Library.
