Summary: The collection includes field notes, photographs and negatives related to Conwell’s research on the Long Walls of Athens for his dissertation (The Athenian long walls: chronology, topography and remains, University of Pennsylvania, 1992), while he was an ASCSA Associate Member (1990-1991), and subsequent monograph (Connecting a city to the sea: the history of the Athenian Long Walls, Mnemosyne, Supplementum 293, Leiden/Boston, 2008). The material dates to the late 1980s and early 1990s and includes photographs of fortification walls in Athens, Piraeus, Phaleron, and Attica (Eleusis, Phyle, Dema Wall, Oinoe etc). The photos are mounted and accompanied by detailed annotations.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE - ΒΙΟΓΡΑΦΙΚΟ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΜΑ
Born and raised in Swarthmore, PA, David Conwell graduated from Trinity College (Hartford) with a B.A. in art history in 1982 and received a Ph.D. in Art and Archaeology of the Mediterranean World from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. He was an ASCSA Associate Member in 1990-1991. After living and teaching in Germany for several years, David returned to the U.S., where he taught Latin and history courses at Baylor School (Chattanooga, TN) for 25 years. David now lives in Brunswick, Maine, where he is sorting through his options before committing to a new direction.
