Travel Trails and the plague in the Ottoman Empire

The indexing of hundreds of travelogues of the 16th to the 19th centuries in the digital platform TravelTrails is a rich source of information for various subjects. Based on recent events we searched the term (tag) ‘plagues,’ which was endemic for centuries in the Byzantine and later in the Ottoman Empire.

Η ψηφιακή αποδελτίωση εκατοντάδων περιηγητικών κειμένων από τον 16ο ως τον 19ο αιώνα στο πρόγραμμα TravelTrails αποτελεί πλούσια πηγή πληροφοριών για ποικίλα θέματα. Με αφορμή πρόσφατα γεγονότα αναζητήσαμε τον όρο ‘λοιμοί’ (tag: plagues), που αποτελούσε ενδημικό φαινόμενο για αιώνες στα εδάφη της Βυζαντινής και της μετέπειτα Οθωμανικής αυτοκρατορίας.

The American School of Classical Studies at Athens is pleased to announce the publication of Hesperia 89.1. Topics in this issue include an overview of the Neolithic settlement on Tsoungiza at Ancient Nemea, an editio princeps of 21 columnar grave monuments from the Athenian Agora, a study of miniature herms that depict Alexander the Great, and a report on the 2018 excavation season at Corinth.

Boston College High School Students Explore the Schliemann Papers

On February 19, 2020, C. Emil Peñarubia and thirteen Boston College High School students (Hyde Global Scholars program) visited the ASCSA Archives. The students were in Greece on a week long trip visiting monuments and archaeological sites in Athens and outside the city; their busy schedule included a visit to the ASCSA, to see the Heinrich Schliemann Papers.
