Although only three of its 34 Doric columns remain standing, the Temple of Zeus at Nemea is one of the easiest 4th-century B.C. Classical Greek buildings to visualize. Few of the vital pieces are missing, and the blocks from the peristyle, overturned by an earthquake, still lie in sequence close to where they fell. Excavations under the auspices of the American School began in 1924 and have continued, with interruptions, since then. This book presents a complete architectural study of the temple, with large plates and plans. There is little interpretation, but the quality of presentation is such that this will be a useful reference work for generations to come.
