World Book Day 2020: Celebrating the 94th Birthday of the Gennadius Library

The Gennadius Library was inaugurated on April 23, 1926 with great pomp. The Feast of Saint George was chosen to celebrate the memory of Joannes Gennadius's father. George Gennadius (1786-1854), an important intellectual during and after the Greek War of Independence, had been a great influence to his son.

By sheer coincidence in 1995 UNESCO designated this very day as World Book and Copyright Day. To celebrate the 94th anniversary of the inauguration of Gennadius Library read Maria Georgopoulou's "Blending Two Cultures: The Gennadius Library Dedication in 1926" from the Archivist's Notebook blog.
