The Wiener Laboratory’s longstanding collaboration with MHAAM (Max Planck – Harvard Research Center for the Archaeoscience of the Ancient Mediterranean), has come to fruition!

At the beginning of August 2020, Wiener Lab staff in collaboration with Ms. Anthi Tilakou and Ms. Eirini Skourtanioti, both graduate researchers at the MPI, performed protocols related to the extraction of bone powder for aDNA analyses from human skeletal remains.

The training sessions, led by Ms. Tiliakou, as well as a subsequent actual sampling of archaeological specimens took place at a newly prepared laboratory area that fulfills the criteria for the safe extraction of archaeological bone powder.

We look forward to many more successful sampling procedures and aDNA analyses results from sites across the Hellenic world.
