Schwarz Fellows in Focus: Exploring Music and Urban Architecture at the Gennadius Library

On January 21, a special event was held to celebrate the eight Schwarz fellows who have studied music and urban architecture at the Gennadeion since the fellowships started in 2021. The group, which included architects Konstantina Georgiadou, Panita Karamanea, Christos-Georgios Kritikos, and Metaxia Markaki, and musicians Sofia Svarna, Alexandra Mourgou, Alexandra Burkot, and Maria Papavasilopoulou, gathered in Cotsen Hall to share the research they’ve been working on at the Gennadius Library.

The discussion was led by Andreas Giacumakatos, Emeritus professor of History, Critical Analysis, and Theory of Architecture at the Athens School of Fine Arts; Nikos Tsouchlos, President of the Athens Conservatoire and Professor in the Department of Music Studies at the Ionian University; and Maria Georgopoulou, Director of the Gennadius Library. The event was also attended by donor Chiona Xanthopoulou-Schwarz.

The conversation dove into how their time as fellows at the Gennadius Library and the American School has influenced (and continues to shape) their academic and professional growth.
