The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) is commemorating the bicentennial of the birth of Heinrich Schliemann (1822-1890), the excavator of Troy, Mycenae, and other prehistoric sites, with an online exhibition The Stuff of Legend: Heinrich Schliemann’s Life and Work. Celebrating the Bicentennial of his Birth. Correspondence, rare documents, photographs, and ephemera, drawn from the Archives of the American School, highlight the depth and breadth of Schliemann’s public, professional, and private life. 

The exhibition, which is curated by Eleftheria Daleziou and Natalia Vogeikoff-Brogan with digital support from Konstantinos Tzortzinis, draws inspiration from Schliemann’s vast archive at the American School. A series of podcasts accompanying the exhibition provides contemporary perspectives on Schliemann through interviews with experts and readings of documents from his archive.  

The exhibition will be available online until December 2023.

 

 

Η Αμερικανική Σχολή Κλασικών Σπουδών στην Αθήνα (ΑΣΚΣΑ) τιμά τα διακόσια χρόνια από τη γέννηση του Ερρίκου Σλήμαν (1822-1890), του ανασκαφέα της Τροίας, των Μυκηνών και άλλων προϊστορικών θέσεων, με την ψηφιακή έκθεση The Stuff of Legend: Heinrich Schliemann’s Life and Work. Celebrating the Bicentennial of his Birth. Αλληλογραφία, σπάνια έγγραφα, φωτογραφικό υλικό και εφήμερα από το προσωπικό αρχείο του Σλήμαν στα Αρχεία της Αμερικανικής Σχολής φωτίζουν τη δημόσια, επαγγελματική και προσωπική ζωή του διάσημου άνδρα.

Την έκθεση που έχουν επιμεληθεί οι Ελευθερία Δαλέζιου και Ναταλία Βογκέικωφ-Brogan με την τεχνική υποστήριξη του Κωνσταντίνου Τζωρτζίνη, πλαισιώνουν συνεντεύξεις, σε μορφή podcasts, με ερευνητές που έχουν ασχοληθεί με τον Σλήμαν και την Αιγαιακή Προϊστορία, όπως και αναγνώσεις από το αρχείο του.

Η έκθεση θα είναι προσβάσιμη διαδικτυακά μέχρι τον Δεκέμβριο του 2023.
