New Palaeography course: “Texts, Manuscripts, Editions: Greek Palaeography, the Transmission of Texts, and Textual Criticism”
The Gennadius Library of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens is excited to announce a new Palaeography course: "Texts, Manuscripts, Editions: Greek Palaeography, the Transmission of Texts, and Textual Criticism" with the generous support of Dumbarton Oaks.
To be held 2025/2026 Winter Term (November through January), hybrid format, non-credit seminar.
Application deadline: April 15, 2025
Format: The course will be conducted during the Winter Term of 2025 (November 2025 through January 2026). Eight weekly sessions will take place online during November and December, and five sessions will take place in-person at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens' Gennadius Library (January 26-30). The week in Greece will also include an overnight trip to the Meteora Monasteries, where students will have the chance to conduct a hands-on examination of Greek manuscripts.
Eligibility: Graduate students and recent Ph.D. holders (Ph.D. earned within the last five years) specializing on any relevant subject, and studying in universities in the US and around the globe. Open to all nationalities. A minimum of four semesters of Ancient Greek (or equivalent) is required.
Costs and Scholarships: There is no tuition fee for the program. All admitted participants will be provided scholarships.
