The ΛΖ ephoreia of prehistoric and Classical antiquities will hold a conference March 26 to 29, 2009 celebrating the sesquicentennial anniversary of New Corinth.  The conference has drawn participants from many countries and many ASCSA staff and affiliated scholars will present papers.  They include Charles Williams, Guy Sanders, Nancy Bookidis, Ioulia Tzonou, Ron Stroud, David Romano, Joe Rife, Tim Gregory, Al Jackson, Dan Pullen and Tom Tartaron, Fritz Hemans, Elizabeth Gebhard, Jeannie Marchand, Jack Davis, Kim Shelton, Jim Wright and Mary Dabney, Steve Miller, and Hector Williams.  More to be posted on the events page later. Retired Foreman of Corinth Excavations, Menes Arberorres, has been ill since August and receiving care in the hospital since November 2008.  Doctors are still looking to diagnose his problems.  Get well cards could be addressed to Menes Arberorres, Ancient Corinth 20007, Greece. On January 19, 2009, Panos Kakouros, Assistant Foreman of the excavations, baptized his daughter, naming her Georgia after his mother. In November and December 2008, the ΛΖ ephoeia and Corinth Excavations cooperated in a small test excavation on the archaeological site.  Jen Palinkas, Nancy Bookidis, Thanasis Notis, Panos Kakouros,and James Herbst participated from the ASCSA’s side.  An area 15 meters west of Glauke fountain was tested for the construction of a two small buildings that will house ticket sales, tourist restrooms and a souvenir reproduction shop.  The excavations yielded Byzantine and Early modern strata. “Το Κάτι Άλλο”, aka “the Chicken place”, aka “Sticks”, aka “the Coldest Beer”, now serves chicken souvlaki.  After years of advertizing Chicken on its sign but only serving pork, the best souvlaki joint in the Corinthia has added this important item to its menu.
