On Sunday, November 8th, eight members of the American School participated in the 27th Annual Athens Classic Road Race. Seven people ran in the 5k: Regular members Jessica Paga, Johanna Best, Kelcy Sagstetter, Dominic Galante, and Rob Nichols, as well as Katie McCormick and Shari Stocker. Regular member John Tully ran in the 10k. The day was rainy, but that didn’t keep us away! Several people, including director Jack Davis and Mellon professor Margaret Miles, braved the rain as well, to cheer us on. We all finished successfully and were in high spirits at the end. The students have been training for the races while on the Fall trips, running in Thessaloniki, Thasos, Olympia, and Delphi, as well as around Mt. Lykavittos in Athens. The route of the 5k began at the marble Panathinaikon stadium, looped around the National Gardens, continued out to the Akropolis, and then returned to the stadium. It was a great experience to see these areas of Athens from a new perspective, in the middle of several hundred runners from all over the world, and without any traffic!
