One of the best coming-of-age Greek novels, Τα Ψάθινα Καπέλα, published in 1946 by Margarita Lymberaki (also spelled as Liberaki), is available in English, thanks to Karen Van Dyke's painstaking translation. Of special interest to us, since the personal papers of Margarita Lymberaki (and those of her daughter, also novelist Margarita Karapanou) were donated to the School's Archives and Personal Papers in 2015. The novel was recently reviewed by the  Paris Review of Books.  Karen Van Dyck is the Kimon A. Doukas Professor of Modern Greek Literature at Columbia University. She writes on modern Greek and diaspora literature and on gender and translation. She was also the Lloyd Cotsen Fellow at the American School in 2017-2018.
