Malcolm Wiener Foundation Donates $2 Million for New Lab
February 13, 2008
Mary C. Sturgeon
I am delighted to announce that the Malcolm H. Wiener Foundation made a major contribution to the School's Capital Campaign in December with a gift of $2 million for the construction of a new Wiener Laboratory facility on the grounds of the School. The School is very grateful to Malcolm and to the Foundation for presenting us with this extremely generous gift and for giving the Campaign a major boost, even before it has officially begun.
As a measure of the commitment of the School to the Wiener Lab and in recognition of the leading contributions of the lab to the field of archaeological science, the Trustees have agreed to make every good-faith effort to find a matching $2 million for the construction of the lab. Two Trustees have already made pledges, including Charles Williams who has pledged to contribute $500,000 to the new lab. We intend to use this major gift to try to leverage other funding for the Wiener Lab and for other Capital Campaign goals.
On behalf of the Managing Committee, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Malcolm and to the Malcolm H. Wiener Foundation for their vision in creating the lab, and for their generosity in providing the support to put it on a solid foundation, both physically and financially, for the foreseeable future.
