Irini Solomonidi Named Acting Director of the Gennadius Library

Irini Solomonidi has been appointed Acting Director of the Gennadius Library from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. Irini Solomonidi joined the Gennadeion staff as librarian in August 2005. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne, where she is currently a doctoral candidate in Byzantine literature. She is also a certified translator. Her academic interests lie in French and Byzantine literature.
While working at many prestigious academic libraries in Paris (the Ecole Normale Supérieure, the Library of the University of Paris X-Nanterre, the Library of Byzantine Studies at the Collège de France, and the Medical Research Library of the University of Paris VII), Irini earned a library degree from the University of Paris V – René Descartes.
Gennadius Director Maria Georgopoulou will be on research leave from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. She was awarded a prestigious fellowship at the National Humanities Center in North Carolina in order to complete her book “Arts, Industry, and Trade in the Medieval Mediterranean.” (See related article.)
