Fowler Merle-Smith Fellowship, 2011-2012 inaugural year
Fowler (“Mike”) Merle-Smith in 1947
The American School of Classical Studies at Athens is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Fowler Merle-Smith Regular Member Fellowship, recently endowed by the Fowler Merle-Smith Family Charitable Lead Trust to honor the late Fowler Merle-Smith, a teacher of history and social studies. His devotion to ancient Greece was part of his teaching at the Princeton Day School, where he was also the middle school administrator. With this fellowship, Merle-Smith’s love of the ancient Greek world will now be shared with students at the American School. The Fowler Merle-Smith Fellowship, unrestricted as to field, will be awarded to a graduate student who plans to attend the School as a Regular Member. Regular Membership is the rigorous, core academic-year program of the School. Read more information.
