Corinth in the Classroom: Geology and Civilization
March 24, 2009
In July 2008 Geologist and high school teacher Drew Patrick, his daughter Phoebe and his wife, author Nalini Jones (What You Call Winter, Knopf 2007), used Ancient Corinth as his base for a special project to develop interactive teaching tools for high school students in New York. After extensive travel and consultations with Guy Sanders and one of Corinth Excavations’ geoarchaeologists, Ruth Siddall of University College London, he has produced the first in a series of lessons on Greek tectonics, Ancient Corinth, Sparta and Milos using Google Earth for formative assessment of geologic and historical principles and ideas. The modules will challenge students to analyze, interpret, and synthesize evidence to draw conclusions about the decisions made by civilizations, past and present.
