Last week, Corinth Excavations hosted our 200th educational program! In total, over 5,750 people have participated in educational programs, with 82% percent of participants joining us digitally.
Katie Petrole, the Steinmetz Family Foundation Museum Fellow who developed the K-12 educational resources for Corinth Excavations, has Skyped with students from 36 countries, representing over 681,590 virtual miles (1,096,913km) traveled. On-site and online programs in the past two weeks alone included students from diverse locations around the world: Algeria, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Israel, Pakistan, Russia, Ukraine, USA, and Vietnam.
Featured on-site program:
The University of New Brunswick Travel Study Program in Greece for 2018 "Worship and Warfare" recently visited Corinth, where they considered the Temple of Apollo, Acrocorinth and other fortifications, and took in the marvelous redesigned museum. Led by Dr. Matthew A. Sears and Dr. James S. Murray, twenty-two students, ranging from traditional undergraduates to retired alumni and education experts, spent three weeks in Greece working on two courses, "The Art and Architecture of Greece" and "Remembering War in Ancient Greece."
”All of the participants agreed that one of the most memorable experiences during the three weeks was the exploring at Corinth we were able to do with Katie Petrole, having a chance to get behind the ropes on the Temple and to get up close to the Peirene Fountain, and especially to handle and discuss various objects found by the Corinth Excavations. The educational outreach programs at Corinth are fantastic, and many other sites could learn a great deal from your approach!” - Dr. Matthew A. Sears
Virtual Field Trips:
Katie has added two new Virtual Field Trip options so educators can Skype into Corinth for lesson plans and artifacts from specific time periods:
You can join, too!
All groups, teachers, and educators are welcome to sign up for a Virtual Field Trip with Corinth Excavations by going to one of the links above or the Corinth Excavations Educator profile or email Katie at email@example.com.
