In June 2012 the Senior Librarian of the Gennadius Library, Irini Solomonidi, visited the Centre du Conservation du Livre in Arles, France, which specializes in the conservation of paper and bookbindings.
She had the opportunity to explore firsthand the latest techniques used in the conservations of books, manuscripts and archives. The Centre undertakes the conservation and digitization of manuscripts, books and archives of various institutions creating e-corpus, a collective digital library that catalogs and disseminates numerous documents: manuscripts, archives, books, journals, prints, audio recordings, video, etc.
While at the Center she also attended the seminar “Introduction au Latin pour bibliothécaires” which solidified her linguistic skills in Latin in order to serve better the collection of old and rare books at the Gennadius Library.
