An unforgettable evening of poetry in the gardens of the Gennadius Library
On Tuesday, 30 June, the Gennadius Library celebrated the June full moon with Poetic Dialogues in the Moonlight: Seferis–Elytis at the Gennadius, a special event presented as part of the Library's centennial celebrations.
Under the moonlit canopy of the Library's gardens, a large audience gathered for an evening dedicated to summer and the enduring poetry of Greece's two Nobel laureates, George Seferis and Odysseas Elytis. Through an original poetic dialogue, Sonia Kalaitzidou and Marios Kritikopoulos (dramaturgy and narration), accompanied by cellist Ivi Papathanasiou, wove together poems and fragments from the two poets into a lyrical meditation on love, memory, and longing. The performance drew on the archives of Seferis and Elytis, both treasured holdings of the Gennadius Library.
The magic of the setting, the poetry, and the audience's warm response combined to create an unforgettable evening, reaffirming the Library's commitment to bringing literature to life through shared cultural experience.
We warmly thank everyone who joined us and look forward to welcoming you back to the Gennadius Library when our new season of events begins with the start of the academic year. Until then, we wish you a wonderful summer.
