American School Celebrates 140th Anniversary
On this day 140 years ago, the American School of Classical Studies at Athens was founded by a consortium of nine American universities in collaboration with leading businessmen. Today, we are comprised of nearly 200 cooperating institutions and thousands of alumni/ae. The School is now the oldest and largest U.S. overseas research center, and its mission remains unchanged.
As we celebrate our 140th anniversary, we must thank everyone who has been a part of this ongoing voyage of discovery. To the generations of alumni/ae, benefactors, board members, faculty, friends, staff, and students: we are profoundly grateful for your support and honored to count you among the American School family. Without you, our distinguished legacy of teaching, research, leadership, and innovation would not have been possible.
To mark this momentous occasion, our trustees have launched the School's annual appeal and invite you to make a gift today at ascsa.org/give. Your philanthropic support enables us to continue preserving, protecting, and promoting Greece's rich past and broadening awareness of our important work and mission. Thank you for your generosity!
We also welcome your favorite American School memories, stories, and photos, so please share them in the comments below. Note: Registration is not required; simply check the "I'd rather post as a guest" box.
