Alumni Week: Let’s Cook!
A recipe from the new cookbook
Kathleen Lynch (1996–97) I’m a terrible cook, so it may seem odd that I proposed to produce an ASCSA Alumni Cookbook. But I do enjoy eating, and some of my strongest memories of Greece involve food and wonderful dinners shared with friends. In honor of the 130th anniversary of the School, I proposed that alumni and friends of the School send in recipes and food memories. I was overwhelmed by the generous response and the marvelous shared memories. The cookbook is now completed and available, and in it you will find delicious recipes for Greek favorites like lentil soup and moussaka, imported comfort foods like Christmas stolen and brownies, and surprises like octopodi Minoan style and a retsina cocktail (!) Photos document progressive Easter lamb roasting technology and prove that Loring Hall residents actually used the Alumni’s gift of kitchen utensils. The memories evoke sparer times rich with friends and adventure. There is even a haiku about Kinder Eggs. Proceeds from the cookbook will go to the Alumni/ae Association, which contributes fellowships and an annual gift to the School. There are two ways to get the cookbook: 1) As a book on Blurb.com. The book is 7 x 7 inches square, full-color, soft cover, with 48 pages of text. The cost at Blurb is $26.95, which includes a $10 donation to the Alumni Association. Shipping is $6.99 for up to three books. You can see a full preview there. A copy to preview will also be available at the May 14th Managing Committee meeting in New York. 2) As a PDF to download. Go to this URL then use your browser’s save function to have a copy on your computer. It looks fabulous on an iPad! If you download the PDF, we ask that you kindly send a donation of $10 to: ASCSA Alumni Association c/o Bob Sutton Department of World Languages & Cultures Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Cavanaugh Hall 545 425 University Boulevard Indianapolis, IN 46202-5140 USA Many thanks for your participation in this project!
