Alan L. Boegehold, 1927-2015
Alan Boegehold, professor of Classics, chair of the ASCA Managing Committee, and poet.  Not only. "Alan touched the lives of many of us at the American School of Classical Studies and we will miss him – a scholar, a gentleman, and a friend to all --deeply," wrote Jenifer Neils, Chair of the ASCSA Managing Committee, on November 2nd, announcing to the ASCSA community the passing of Alan L. Boegehold on October 30, 2015. In a celebration in Athens in 2011 of the 130th anniversary of the School, Alan Boegehold was awarded the first Aristeia Award of the Alumni/ae Association, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the improvement and to the reputation of the School. The video from that ceremony is available at (to see Alan, please click part #2): http://www.ascsa.edu.gr/index.php/news/newsDetails/130th-anniversary-of-the-school-celebrated-with-honors-and-a-new-exhibition In the summer of 2010, Alan took me out to lunch at OMORFO because I had expressed the desire to hear him reading some of his newest poetry (REFLECTIONS). He told me to save this one for my son when he became 21: "TWENTY-ONE" o my o my wouldn't I love to be just exactly 21 & free thereby from "don't" and "do" &set free to fly up &through a whole bright shimmery life.   Below I have also uploaded a small selection of photos of Alan Boegehold that I found in the School's Archives (and I will continue uploading as I find more).
