The Gennadius Library is hosting the exhibition "Ο Κωνσταντίνος Α. Βοβολίνης και το Μέγα Ελληνικόν Βιογραφικόν Λεξικόν" organized on the occasion of the donation of the Archive of Konstantinos Vovolinis to the Archives of the Library.

The exhibition presents the scientific work of Kostantinos Vovolinis (1913-1970) and includes a compendium of valuable materials gathered by him in order to write the Great Hellenic Biographical Dictionary. Several figures important in the economic, political and scientific life of Athens are explored: e.g. Venizelos, Caratheodory, Loverdos, Eftaxias, Kallifronas, Trikoupis, Diomedes, Kanellopoulos, Maximus. This presentation aims to highlight not only the wealth of evidence offered in the amassed material, but also the role of an archive, its necessity and contribution to collective memory.

The opening was celebrated with a discussion in Cotsen Hall (on March 11, 2013). Co-organized by the Gennadius Library and the Publishing Group Economia-Kerkyra Publications. Professors Stathis Kalyvas (Yale University) and Kostas Kostis (University of Athens) discussed with journalist Antonis Papagiannidis of the Economia Group the topic of business and intellectual life in 10th century Greece.

The life and work of Konstantinos Vovolinis form the subject of a book published by Georgia Panselina and a documentary produced by Nikos Politis.
