The Flora Graeca is an extraordinary publication that describes and illustrates the plants collected by John Sibthorp, Ferdinand Bauer and John Hawkins on their journey through the eastern Mediterranean (southern Italy, Greece and western Turkey) during 1786 and 1787. This talk discusses the primary materials, such as illustrations, specimens and field notes, and the slow, intricate process of making the Flora Graeca.

Harris' research area is evolution, systematics and conservation of plants. His research concentrates on the use of molecular markers in evolutionary and conservation biology, especially hybridisation, polyploidy, the evolutionary consequences of human-mediated plant movement and conservation genetics. His is also interested in the problems of using herbarium specimens as a source of DNA for evolutionary studies, and the history of botany.
