Due to the heightened risk from the coronavirus outbreak and following the instructions of the Ministry of Health regarding the suspension of large indoors gatherings,
our upcoming event "Aspects of Greece at the beginning of 19th century from the collections of the Gennadius Library", is currently postponed
The collections of the Gennadius Library reflect the keen interest of its founder, John Gennadius, in the history of Hellenism through the ages. One of the most significant parts of the Gennadius collection on Greek history is the Greek War of Independence.
The activity will present holdings from the Gennadius Library collections related to Greece before the Greek Revolution and during the War of Independence. The selected items - maps, engravings, rare books, manuscripts, drawings and watercolors - highlight the development of the Greek national consciousness around 1800 and display documents on the history of the struggle for the Greek War of Independence.
