Summary: The collection comprises seventeen embroideries that once decorated the Director's House at the ASCSA. (Some of them may have originaly belonged to Carl and Elizabeth Blegen's House on Ploutarchou 9; see G.L. McCann, "Embroideries of the Aegean Islands in the Exhibition of Mediterranean and Near-Eastern Embroideries," Bulletin of the Cincinnati Art Museum, 2:2, 1931, pp. 51-61.) Although poorly preserved, many of them were produced on the islands of Crete and Skyros in the 18th and 19th centuries; there may be one or two items in the collection produced by the Near East Industries about 1924-1940.

Immediate Source of Acquisition: Director Jenifer Neils brought them to the Archives in 2019.
