ABSTRACT:

This article presents 28 epigraphical fragments of a financial nature found in the excavations of the Athenian Agora carried out between 1931 and 1967. In almost every case, the evidence for the identification of these small, poorly preserved inscriptions rests upon readings or restorations that may be interpreted differently in the future. Nevertheless, these previously unpublished fragments provide new information for various categories of financial documents. They are grouped provisionally as (1) records of leases or sales made by the poletai, the archon basileus, or other officials; (2) accounting documents and inventories of treasures and dedications; and (3) a security horos.
